WHY AAU Hockey?
The Iowa Wild Wings were founded to give young players from across the state a chance to compete at a higher level while connecting with other passionate hockey families. While USA Hockey programs do a great job of introducing kids to the game, many players are looking for additional opportunities to challenge themselves beyond the half-ice format. Our team provides a full-ice experience that supplements their current development, allowing them to face top competition while playing alongside other dedicated teammates.
Our Commitment to USA Hockey Compliance, Player Rights & Safe Participation
At Iowa Wild Wings, our mission is to provide supplemental, high-level hockey opportunities through AAU tournaments and training. Our program is designed to support, not replace, any player’s USA Hockey experience. We provide positive, skills-based opportunities that foster growth and confidence in a fun, competitive setting.
Protected by USA Hockey Policy: No Retaliation for AAU Participation
According to the 2024–2025 USA Hockey Annual Guide, players may not be penalized or retaliated against for participating in non–USA Hockey programs:
“Membership in or registration with another sanctioning body may not be used as a basis to deny membership in USA Hockey, its Affiliates or local programs. Correspondingly, no Individual Participant may be penalized for participating in a program that is not sanctioned by USA Hockey.”
— USA Hockey Annual Guide, Section L, p. 51
Retaliation is Strictly Prohibited under Safe Sport
The Safe Sport Handbook (revised 12/31/2024) explicitly prohibits retaliation against players or families for participation in other programs:
“Retaliation includes taking, or threatening to take, an adverse action against any person for… participating in any process under the SafeSport Code or this Handbook.”
— Safe Sport Handbook, p. 19, Section C: Misconduct Related to Reporting and Retaliation
Examples of retaliation include:
Threats to demote or remove a player
Exclusion from team activities or practices
Negative evaluations during team placements
Intimidating language
If a coach, administrator, or affiliate program threatens, punishes, or excludes a player due to participation, that is a SafeSport violation and can be formally reported to: usahockeysafesport@usahockey.org
